CNN and several other media outlets in the US have reported that some people have reported “running to the toilet” after drinking a new drink that has gone on sale at Starbucks in the US.
International reputation of the new Starbucks drink
The coffee with olives that has started to be sold at Starbucks in the US has received mixed reviews, with some people saying that it is smooth and tasty, while others said that they gave up halfway through.
Speaking to CNN, Starbucks CMO (Chief Marketing Officer) Brady Brewer said that the new drink line, Oleato, which adds olive oil to latte, iced espresso and cold brew, is “one of the biggest It’s one of the biggest projects we’ve done in a decade,” and he expressed great confidence in the new menu item, saying that it would “revolutionise the coffee industry and be very profitable”.
‘ Oleato’ was first introduced in Italy in February and rolled out in the US in late March. TikTok user boksoongahs, who drank the Oleato Ice Shaken Espresso, described the flavour of the olive oil as a ‘throat-quenching feeling’. She liked it, saying it was “very unique but delicious.” Others said that, apart from the taste, olive oil was also good for beauty and health.
However, on the other hand, according to CNN, there were also worrying comments from people who “ran to the toilet” after drinking coffee with olive oil. A Starbucks page on the US message board reddit, by a self-proclaimed Starbucks barista, wrote: “Half of my team tried it yesterday and some of them had to go to the toilet. You know what I mean”, while others on Twitter wrote: “Starbucks Oleato drink irritates my tummy” and “I had it once and it made my tummy hurt. This seems to “work” quite well”, with a few posts here and there suggesting that their stomachs were rumbling.
CNN asked Starbucks for comment on those negative reactions, but they were unable to get a response by the deadline. Incidentally, ‘ Oleato’ is scheduled to be launched in Japan in late 2023.
