Popular singer Taylor Swift and Matthew Healy of popular British rock band The 1975 are currently rumoured to be romantically involved. Matthew’s comments in a past interview have attracted a lot of attention.

The Sun newspaper in the UK recently reported that Taylor Swift and Matthew Healy are ‘in love’. However, some fans do not seem to believe the report.

One of the reasons why fans have reacted coldly to the news is because of an interview Matthew Healy gave in 2016.

In it, he revealed why he did not want to date Taylor Swift.

In an interview with Q Magazine in 2016, he said of his first meeting with Taylor: “When we first met, we exchanged phone numbers. It’s something a lot of people in this industry do. Then we started talking from time to time,” Matthew said, “She’s a global superstar. She’s a global superstar, whereas I live in Australia. We don’t have a relationship or anything. It’s weird for people to believe that there might be something going on.

On the possibility of a relationship in the future, Matthew said he was afraid of losing himself in a relationship and confessed: “I’m not good at the whole ‘dating’ thing.

‘Definitely. So if I went out with Taylor, I’d be like, ‘I can’t be Taylor’s boyfriend’. I feel like, as a man, I wouldn’t be able to maintain my pride,” adding that there is pressure to be in a relationship with a big star.

Taylor and Matthew were reportedly romantically involved about 10 years ago.

Matthew said he was moved that “an unknown me was in the same paper as Taylor”, but denied dating.

Taylor, who was also recently reported to be romantically involved with former Formula One champion Fernando Alonso, seems to be getting a lot of attention for her romance, having just ended her six-year relationship with actor Joe Alwyn.
