In response to reports of the countersuit, the former backup dancers’ lawyer issued a statement to Page Six.

The countersuit is an “attempt to intimidate and insinuate” and will have a chilling effect on all victims of harassment in the workplace, the lawyer claims.

The intimidation tactics, bullying, and shameful treatment of victims by Lizzo’s team are the very behaviors that employees in the entertainment industry feel they must “put up with” in order to succeed,” Lizzo continued. Lizzo also claimed that she fears that other victims will come forward with similar accusations.

Her team is simply trying to suppress the truth, openly promoting their brand of empowerment and body positivity, while privately disempowering women,” the lawyer continued, adding that Lizzo is “disenfranchising them.

On August 1, three former backup dancers (Ariana Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noel Rodriguez) filed a lawsuit against Lizzo and others for body shaming and sexual harassment. In the lawsuit, they claimed that during a visit to Amsterdam, Lizzo took them to a strip club and pressured them to mingle with naked performers.

Then, on August 23, Lizzo’s lawyer announced that he planned to file a lawsuit for “malicious prosecution” of his former backup dancers. Lizzo’s attorneys also shared photos and videos with People USA. The dancers, who had accused Lizzo of sexual harassment, appeared to be enjoying themselves after attending a topless show in Amsterdam with Lizzo. This disproved the claim that they had done so against their will, he said.
