The number of fries you can eat in one bite…

The “number of french fries you can eat in one sitting” recommended by Professor Eric Lim of the Harvard School of Public Health in the U.S. has caused a stir among Americans who love french fries.

In the New York Times, Prof. Lim dismissed French fries as a “starch bomb” that threatens human health. The U.S. Department of Agriculture recommends consuming “about 12 to 15 french fries (140 calories in total) at a time,” but Prof. Lim found the truth even crueler than that.

But Professor Lim found out an even crueler truth: only six french fries are recommended.

Six? I can eat six fries in one bite…,” said Professor Lim, a nutrition expert who knows the human body inside and out, “I don’t think most people order French fries by themselves and leave three-quarters of them. But the preferred accompaniment to a meal is a salad and six French fries,” he quipped.

Incidentally, Americans consume about 52 kilograms of potatoes a year, two-thirds of which are made into processed foods such as French fries and potato chips.
