Manchester City, aiming to become the first team in the history of England’s top flight to win four consecutive championships, faced a promoted Burnley team led by club legend Vincent Kompany. The match was broken in the fourth minute when Manchester City, away from home, took the lead. Kevin De Bryne sent in a cross from the right side, and Rhodri headed it back from the left side of the penalty area. Arling Haaland, in the center of the box, pushed in with his left foot.
In the 23rd minute, Manchester City had an accident. De Bryne was unable to continue playing due to an injury to his hip area and was replaced by newcomer Mateo Kovacic, who left the pitch.
Manchester City took the lead in the 36th minute. Kyle Walker’s grounders from deep on the right flank were met by Julian Alvarez in the center of the box, who fed Haaland nearby, who took one touch with his left foot and ripped a powerful shot into the top left corner of the goal.
Manchester City took a two-goal lead into the 75th minute when Rodrigo pushed home a free kick, and in the 79th minute, Josko Gwaldior, the second-highest paid defender in history, made his Premier League debut on the halfway line.
With Burnley’s late exit, Manchester City got off to the best possible start with a 3-0 victory. The next game will be held on August 19, when Manchester City will play Newcastle at home.
