Mayweather arranged a plane to evacuate families fleeing the fires, and paid for the flight entirely out of his own pocket.

According to the U.S. online news TMZ, Mayweather arranged flights for two days to evacuate about 70 families fleeing the fires to Honolulu, paying for the flights entirely out of his own pocket.

He also provided hotels and meals for them to stay for several weeks, and has rescued more than 100 residents so far. In addition, they are also working with the apparel brand H&M to procure clothing for the residents who were evacuated without clothes, according to sources.

Meanwhile, popular American TV host Oprah Winfrey, 69, who owns more than 200 acres of land and three different properties in Maui and has been living in a second home for 15 years, is also in the area, handing out supplies at evacuation centers, according to the Daily Mail. After interviewing the victims about what they needed, Winfrey went shopping for supplies and returned to the War Memorial Stadium, which is once again a shelter, to donate pillows, sanitary products, diapers, bottles of shampoo, and other items, according to the report. He said, “I’m devastated. But I am so happy that so many people are supporting us. I hope people will bring what they can and do what they can to help,” he said in an interview, appealing for support.

According to the newspaper, in addition to Winfrey, American actors and directors Clint Eastwood and Owen Wilson, Steven Tyler of the rock band Aerosmith, and Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon, also own real estate on Maui. Bezos’ fiancée, former anchor Lauren Sanchez, posted on Instagram that she is “heartbroken” and plans to call local residents and authorities to make donations to help the community, according to a source close to the two men. Bezos reportedly owns a $78 million estate on Maui’s southwest coast. English musician Mick Fleetwood reportedly lost a restaurant he owned in the devastated major city of Lahaina.

According to Maui County officials, at least 55 people were confirmed dead and hundreds were missing by the evening of August 10. More than 2,000 people are reportedly in shelters on Maui.
