”THE IDOL” is a drama by Sam Levinson, creator of “EUPHORIA,” that presents a naked look at the poor environment of the music industry surrounding a young idol.

Lily-Rose Depp, also known as Johnny Depp’s daughter, gives a physical performance as Josslyn, a diva who is trying to reinvent herself as a “sexy pop star” after canceling her tour due to a mental breakdown. One of the creators, Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye, also plays a nightclub owner who tries to manipulate Josslyn, and his explicit portrayal has often been criticized.

An HBO spokesperson said, “‘THE IDOL’ is one of the most provocative HBO originals and we are pleased with the strong audience response. After careful consideration, HBO and the creators and producers have decided not to produce a second season. We thank the creators, cast and crew for a job well done,” the statement said.
