Helmut Marko, Red Bull F1’s motorsports advisor, refuted early analysis that Red Bull Racing’s 2022 F1 car, the RB18, has already been left behind by Ferrari and Mercedes.

In the first preseason test, Sergio Perez finished with the third fastest time for Red Bull Racing.

 

However, Sergio Perez’s best time was 0.418 seconds behind Lewis Hamilton, who passed teammate George Russell to top the timesheets at the Circuit de Catalunya.

A reporter for the Austrian newspaper Osterreich reported an analysis based on the three-day F1 Barcelona test that the Red Bull Racing RB18 appeared to be 0.5 seconds behind the top car.

Helmut Marko also said that Red Bull Racing is still hiding a large amount of performance.

 

‘Completely yes. We are still far from the weight limit and we have new parts,” Helmut Marko revealed.

 

Helmut Marko insists that first-time F1 world champion Max Verstappen is “not feeling the pressure” to win again in 2022.

 

Max said he felt comfortable behind the wheel of the car from the very first lap in Barcelona,” said Helmut Marko, “and that’s why he’s going to win again in 2022.

 

‘Of course, it’s a completely new car, so we need to work out some kinks.’

 

But we weren’t using soft tires or low fuel at all. We know this car is capable of much more.”
