Netflix’s blockbuster hit “Squid Game” has achieved a historic accomplishment at the 74th Emmy Awards.

The Television Academy announced the nominees for the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards, television’s premier awards ceremony, on Tuesday, July 12, local time.

This year’s Emmy Awards saw the social drama “The Media Kings – Succession,” which received the most nominations with 25. This is followed by “Ted Russo: Coach Ted Russo,” which won Best Picture last year, and “White Lotus,” an American satirical comedy-drama with 20 nominations each.

 

And the South Korean survival drama “Squid Game,” which was a worldwide hit when it was released on Netflix last year, received 14 Emmy nominations this year.

 

The Squid Game” was nominated for Best Picture, the most coveted award. This is the first time in the history of the awards that a non-English-language drama has been nominated in the same category.

 

Lee Jung-jae was nominated for Best Actor in a Drama, Jung Ho-young for Best Supporting Actress, Park Hye-su and Oh Young-soo for Best Supporting Actor, and Lee Yu-mi for Best Guest Actress.

 

The Squid Game is a South Korean drama that began streaming on Netflix in September 2021. The story is about a group of adults with huge debts who compete in children’s games such as “Daruma-san ga Koronda” and “Tug of War” for the winning prize money. As soon as it was released, it became a worldwide sensation and the biggest hit in Netflix history. Just a few days ago, the production of season 2 was officially announced.

 

The 74th Emmy Awards will be broadcast live in real time on U-NEXT from the red carpet to the awards ceremony on Tuesday, September 13 at 8:00 pm Japan time. After that, it will be available for unlimited viewing and will be archived with subtitles.
