Lee Jung Jae does not know anything about “Squid Game” Season 2 at this point, but he does not seem to be particularly concerned about it.
He revealed why he doesn’t read scripts in advance
The Korean drama “Squid Game” was the first non-English-language production to be nominated for an Emmy Award for Best Drama Picture. The drama, which began streaming on Netflix last September, became a social phenomenon around the world and became the biggest hit in Netflix history.
While it was also announced that Season 2 is in the works, actor Lee Jung Jae, who played the main character Song Ki Hoon in Season 1, gave an interview to IndieWire and revealed why he cannot talk about the next season.
According to the interview, Jung Jae said that he has not “read through” any of the scripts for the next season. Therefore, he is not aware of the content in the first place and is unable to talk about it.
While Jungjae is “extremely curious” about the next storyline, as is the interest of those around him, he is also cautious.
I try not to ask the director too many questions when I’m acting,” he said. “I have to reflect the intense emotions I had when I first read the script in my performance,” he said, explaining why he does not read the script in advance.
In this interview, Jung-jae also shared his thoughts on why “Squid Game” was such a hit.
There are probably many reasons, but I think the main reason is that the game is simple and unique, and anyone can understand and copy it,” Jungjae said. But the most important element is the wonderful characters,” he emphasized.
Jung-jae added, “The characters are very appealing. The viewers can project themselves onto any one of them, and they can relate the others to the people around them. This creates a strong connection between the characters and the audience. When the viewers see the characters struggling to survive in the game, I think they see themselves and the social issues of today. I think that’s why it struck a chord with them,” he continued.
