Trailer for “THE IDOL
The first episode of “THE IDOL” became available on HBO (U-NEXT in Japan) on Monday, June 5.
Described as “Hollywood’s most depraved love story,” it has been reported for some time that there are sexually explicit scenes, and Jennie’s scene in such a story has been criticized one after another, especially from within Korea.
Jennie played Diane, a dancer and best friend of Joslyn, played by Lily-Rose Depp. In the first episode, there is a scene in which Diane dances a sexy dance with a male dancer in close proximity to him, and this seemed to be a problem.
Immediately after the episode aired, netizens in Korea criticized the episode on SNS. Many complained more about the content of the drama than about Jennie herself.
Some of the comments on the net included, “I can kind of understand why this drama has a bad reputation, regardless of Jennie’s acting,” and “Of course the dancing is a problem, but… her facial expressions. I’m sure V (a member of BTS who is reportedly dating Jennie) will be disappointed with this…” “I wonder why Jennie decided to accept this offer. The office should also stop it.” “This is too much, isn’t it? What were the drama producers thinking?” What was the producer of the drama thinking? The image of an idol is very important. What is that expression on her face? What’s with that expression? It looks like she’s really having sex.
