A cast member of the popular audition show “American Idol” has died at a young age.
According to a report by TMZ, the deceased was CJ Harris, who appeared on “American Idol” Season 13 and reached the semi-finals at the young age of 31.
CJ Harris suffered a heart attack on Sunday, January 15 in his hometown of Jasper, Alabama. He was then rushed to the hospital, where he reportedly breathed his last shortly after.
Harris appeared on “American Idol” in 2014 and was known for his stunning performance of the Allman Brothers Band hit “Soulshine,” which wowed the audience.
Country singer Keith Urban, who served as a judge, praised Harris’ voice at the time, saying, “You’re not singing because you want to sing, you’re singing because you have to sing,” and “That’s why it’s real and you can believe it from the bottom of your heart.
Harris also performed covers of other hit songs on the show, including “Too Close,” “American Woman,” and “Free Fallin’.
Harris eventually advanced to the semifinals as a wild card, but unfortunately was eliminated in the top six.
Nevertheless, after his appearance on the show, he and singer/songwriter Derrius Rucker performed at the Grand Ole Opry, a country music mecca, and had other successes.
Harris is not the only “American Idol” native to have recently passed away. Last October, “American Idol” runner-up Willie Spence (age 23) died from injuries sustained in a car accident.
