Rookie QB Brock Purdy injured his right elbow on the first offensive drive of the National Football Conference (NFC) championship game against the Philadelphia Eagles. However, he returned to the field in the second half after backup QB Josh Johnson suffered a concussion.

Purdy injured his elbow when he was hit by Eagles edge rusher Hasan Reddick. Although he returned in the third quarter, Purdy’s throwing ability and the 49ers’ play were clearly constrained.

Johnson, who substituted for Purdy in the first half, was hit by Endamakan Suh on the 49ers’ first drive of the second half and was ruled out of the game by a concussion. Purdy returned on the next play and connected the ball to Christian McCaffrey.

The last player selected in the 2022 NFL Draft, Purdy took over for Jimmy Garoppolo, who was injured in Week 13 of the season. Pardee was 7-0 as a starter through the NFC Championship Game, including two postseason wins.
