After the match, Sky Italia and Mediaset reported comments from Argentine international Lautaro Martinez, who scored the final goal in the second leg.

The game was scoreless from the start, with Milan needing two points to go in front, but the defence, led by former Cameroon goalkeeper Andre Onana, fought hard to keep the game scoreless. In the second half, as Milan struggled to get going, Inter’s ‘game captain’ did a great job in the 74th minute. After a persistent move down the left flank, German midfielder Robin Goossens connected with the centre and the ball found its way to Belgium international Romelu Lukaku, who took up a position on the left of the penalty area and fired the ball into the bottom corner. L Martinez took a position on the left of the penalty area, exchanged passes with Lukaku and swung his left foot out and twisted a powerful shot into the near side. Time expired, and Inter, who had kept two clean sheets in two matches and won eight straight official matches, booked their ticket to the final for the first time in 13 seasons.

After the game, L Martinez praised his team’s performance, saying: ‘I think we did a good job in the first leg, the second leg and the two games. The key point was the group stage,” he said, referring to the fact that he was a member of the Argentina national team that won the world championship at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 last December: “We had a similar experience at the World Cup. When we are united, we can play our best even in such difficult matches”.

L Martinez also referred to his own attitude: “Every time I get on the pitch, I try to do my best to help my teammates. I knew we had a great chance to reach the CL final, and today I did my job for that,” he said, referring to his goal that secured a place in the final as a result of his commitment to the team.

It was Inter’s first CL final since the 2009-2010 season, and L Martinez’s first major appearance in the competition. ‘I am incredibly happy, I don’t know how to put it into words. I thank my family. This sport is the most beautiful thing in the world.

The final is scheduled for 10 June at 22:00 local time at the Ataturk Olimpiyat Stadu in Istanbul, Turkey. Inter will play the winner of Real Madrid (Spain) and Manchester C (England).
