Di Maria, now 35, began his professional career in his native Rosario and has since played for Benfica, Real Madrid, Manchester U, and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

In the summer of 2022, he was announced as a transfer to Juventus, and although injuries and suspensions prevented him from reaching his full potential at the beginning of the 2022-23 season, he ended up scoring eight goals and providing seven assists in 40 official appearances. Although he was a mainstay of the team, he was set to leave the uniform of the Bianconero (black and white in Italian) after only one season, when his contract expired.

As for Di Maria, it was reported by Fabrizio Romano, a reporter well versed in the transfer market, that his old club Benfica and others were interested. According to this report, Inter Miami is one of the clubs planning to acquire the player. On July 7, Inter Miami announced the signing of Argentine FW Lionel Messi, who was set to leave PSG at the end of the 2022-23 season. His old club Barcelona and Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia were also in the hunt, but according to a report in Athletic, the club was able to acquire Messi through a deal involving Apple and Adidas. The deal included revenue sharing for MLS season passes within Apple TV, and Adidas also reportedly offered a long-term revenue-sharing deal.

In this situation, Di Maria, who has long worked with Messi on the Argentina national team, could also be on his way to the United States. At this point, Inter Miami has been presented with conditions from Di Maria’s side and is considering whether or not to make an offer based on these conditions. Like Messi, he is leaving his club at the end of the 2022-23 season, so he can be acquired on a free transfer.

Romano also reports that Di Maria is not the only player Inter Miami is planning to acquire, as the club is also interested in former Spanish midfielder Sergio Busquets, who left Barcelona after the 2022-23 season. Busquets has made a total of 719 official appearances in 15 seasons since making his first official appearance for Barcelona’s first team. Of course, he was also teammates with Messi, and together they helped build Barcelona’s “golden era.

Inter Miami, which has been active in the transfer market this summer, is co-owned by former England midfielder David Beckham, who played for clubs such as Manchester U and Real Madrid. MLS is in the middle of the season. The club is in the bottom half of the Eastern Conference after 16 games.

The question is whether Inter Miami will be able to not only land Messi, but also Di Maria and Busquets, and whether Messi will be able to play alongside his allies in the MLS.
