Djokovic (Serbia) won for the third time in two years at the tournament.

Third-seeded Novak Djokovic (Serbia) defeated fourth-seeded Casper Ruud (Norway) in straight sets 7-6 (7-1), 6-3, 7-5 to win his third title in two years and surpass Rafael Nadal (Spain)’s record for the most wins in a four-major men’s singles tournament with 23. Djokovic’s speech at the awards ceremony was a great success. In his speech at the awards ceremony, Djokovic said, “I’m surprised myself to win my 23rd Grand Slam title.

The 36-year-old Djokovic, aiming for his third French Open title after 2016 and 2021 and the 23rd Grand Slam title in total, the most in men’s history, beat top seed C. Alcaraz of Spain 6-3, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 in the semifinals to advance to the final.

In the first set of the final, Djokovic allowed Ruud to break first in the second game. Nevertheless, Djokovic managed to break back in the seventh game and the set went to a tiebreaker. In the tiebreaker, Djokovic showed super play to counter Ruud’s winner-take-all shot on the first point, and succeeded in getting a mini-break. Djokovic then played a quality match, winning the set in one hour and 23 minutes.

In the second set, Djokovic got off to a flying start, breaking in the second game and winning 88 percent of his service points on the first service. Djokovic then broke Ruud in the second game, and in his own service game, he won 88 percent of the points on his first service.

In the third set, both players held until Djokovic broke for three winners in the 11th game. Djokovic held on to his lead to win his third French Open title.

Djokovic has now surpassed Nadal, who has won 22 men’s singles titles at the four major tournaments, to become the all-time leader with 23 titles.

Djokovic said, “My team, my family, everyone came to support me. I’m surprised to win my 23rd Grand Slam title. Thanks to everyone for coming out to watch. I’ll see you next year.

Ruud, on the other hand, did not become the first Norwegian male to win a Grand Slam.
