In a new interview with Page Six, Louis reflected on his teenage years and said, “We were all nice boys.

One Direction debuted in 2011 with Niall, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, and Zayn Malik. They produced hits such as the first single “What Makes You Beautiful” and “Story of My Life” and sold over 70 million records worldwide.

In a new interview with Page Six, Louis reflected on his teenage years, commenting, “We were all nice boys. And even though we were “nice boys,” he admitted that we did pranks. “Of course, there were times when we wanted to be ‘normal youngsters’ and go out and drink and do whatever young people do at that age,” he continued. And Louis added that he was grateful for that experience.

It was a beautiful thing to go through that phase of life [together],” he explained. We were all young, between the ages of 16 and 18. We were able to have crazy experiences together at that young age,” he recalled.

The group split in 2015 when Zane abruptly left the group, and the following year the group announced an indefinite hiatus.

Tom then lost his mother, Johanna Deakin, who was 43, to leukemia in 2016, and his sister, Felicite Tomlinson, who was 18, to a drug overdose in 2019.

Despite this, Tom describes himself as “a very optimistic person.”

Tom named his latest album and world tour “Faith in the Future.

I think it’s a good, positive message to spread. Everyone has their own problems and frustrations, but no matter what those frustrations are, trying to make sure the glass is half full is something I’ve always tried to do, no matter what I’ve faced in my life. My point is to spread a positive message. It’s really that simple,” he continued.

Tomlinson will perform at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, NY on Saturday, July 29.
