It has been about nine months since the Glazer family announced their intention to sell Manchester United.

The ownership group, which is so infamous that it is no exaggeration to say that it has brought a dark period to the most prestigious club in Europe and that almost all Manchester United fans scattered all over the world are wishing them to leave the club, has been waiting and waiting but has not made a final decision.

As Manchester United fans know, there are two people seeking to acquire management control. One is Jim Ratcliffe, the Manchester native who is known as the richest man in England and the chairman and CEO of INEOS, a chemical company; the other is Sheikh Jassim Bin, the son of the former prime minister of Qatar and the chairman of Qatar Islamic Bank (QIB). Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jaber AI Thani, son of the former Prime Minister of Qatar and Chairman of Qatar Islamic Bank (QIB).

In recent months, Sheikh Jassim has reportedly been one step ahead of the takeover bid, but at some stage talks have stopped progressing at all, with the Glazer family reportedly holding off until an offer in excess of 6 billion pounds (approximately 1.015 trillion yen) is made.

According to Bloomberg, Sheikh Jassim’s father is planning to sell his penthouse and real estate in a luxury residential area in London for a total of 370 million pounds (approximately 68.14 billion yen).

His father, Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber bin Mohammed bin Thani Al Thani, commonly known as HBJ, is very well known in the UK as “the man who bought London,” having acquired luxury hotels in the city in the 10 years since he stepped down as Qatar’s prime minister in 2013 He is also known as “the man who bought London” in the United Kingdom.

On the other hand, when he was Qatar’s foreign minister and prime minister, he is said to have opposed the World Cup bid to the very end, and in March of this year, in response to his son’s intention to buy Manchester United, he said, “I am not interested in soccer. I am concerned about the investment my son is considering. It might work out, but…” He has publicly stated that he is not interested in soccer.

It is not clear what his intention to sell the two properties has to do with his son’s intention to buy Manchester United, but it may be too much to ask for financial support for his son, who is said to have been crazy about United since he was a boy.

At any rate, Manchester United fans would like the Glazer family to leave the club as soon as possible.
