On the evening of August 26, 2023 local time, Taylor Swift showed her best friend Selena Gomez some love in an Instagram Story before taking the stage for her Mexico City show on [The Eras Tour].
Taylor shared part of the music video for Selena’s feel-good new song “Single Soon” and her thoughts on the song.
She wrote, “When your best friend is truly the best,” she continued, “I think I’ll dance to this song forever.” The post prompted “Taylena,” a play on their names, to start trending on social networking sites.
Selena, who is still working on her third album, described “Single Soon” as “a fun song I wrote a while ago, perfect for the end of summer. Her last full-length album was 2020’s Rare, and in 2021 she released the all-Spanish EP Revelacion. She also released a song with the same title in 2022 to coincide with the release of her documentary Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me. Since the release of The Rare, she has guested on a number of singles, including the 2022 hit “Calm Down” by Lema.
Taylor, meanwhile, is playing four shows in Mexico City as part of [The Eras Tour], with the final show on Sunday.
