In Johnny Depp’s defamation trial, Amber Heard was once again confronted by Depp’s lawyers with numerous contradictions on May 17, local time.
Cross-examining her was Camille Vazquez, as she did yesterday. Dressed in a white pantsuit with long hair, she again came down hard on Heard today, who tried to evade questions and answer in her favor.
Sneaking around, she changed the locks without the homeowner’s permission to have an affair with another man.
On cross-examination, it is clear that Depp’s team tried to prove to the jury that Heard is a liar. Yesterday, Vasquez showed a picture of Hurd at an event the day after he said his nose was crushed by Depp’s violence, and exposed the fact that Hurd did not “donate” the $7 million he received from Depp, saying he did not, and today, he showed the big Vasquez showed the jury the knife that Heard gave him for Depp’s birthday in 2012, saying it was unnatural for him to give him a knife as a gift when he had testified that he had been violent with Depp since 2011.
Heard’s alleged affair with James Franco was also brought up. Franco and Heard became friends when they co-starred in the 2008 comedy “Pineapple Express,” and they reteamed in “The Adderall Diaries” after Heard became a couple with Depp. Heard testified that Depp was furious when he found out there was a romantic scene between them in “The Adderall~.”
According to Heard, Depp was a jealous man who suspected Heard of cheating on him without any evidence. He disliked Franco terribly, and when they filmed “The Danish Girl,” Heard said, he began to suspect a relationship with Eddie Redmayne. Heard insisted that he was not in a physical relationship with those co-stars.
Vasquez began, “You testified that you filed for a restraining order (against Depp) on May 27, 2016 because you wanted to change the locks on the penthouse (in downtown L.A. where you lived with Depp). Do you remember that?” I asked Heard. When Heard answered yes, Vasquez replied, “But the fact is, you changed the locks on May 22. That’s the day you’re trying to get James Franco to come in.” Keeping as calm as possible, Heard said, “I don’t remember when James came in,” and Vasquez said, “Well, let me remind you,” and played a security video of the penthouse elevator.

The video begins with Heard riding the elevator alone. When the elevator doors open, she exits, and when the doors open next, Heard and Franco enter. They huddle intimately in the corner of the elevator until they reach the top floor, and when the doors open, they exit together. The time stamp on the video is 22:57 on May 22, 2016.
Depp was leaving the penthouse that day, and soon thereafter he would leave Los Angeles for a while on the band’s tour. Knowing this, Heard pulled Franco into the house, and I guess he changed the locks on the house just in case Depp came back. When pressed on that, Heard shrugged, “I didn’t really know his schedule. Needless to say, the penthouse belonged to Depp. Heard changed the locks without the homeowner’s permission in order to sneak around and have an affair with another man in the house he bought and is able to live in thanks to him.
Leaking himself to gossip sites?
Vazquez also suggests that Heard leaked information to the media.
In testimony up until yesterday, Heard had consistently claimed that she always wore makeup and covered the bruises on her face when she went outside. Heard’s lawyer also said that as an actress, Heard would never walk outside without makeup. But only when she went to file for a restraining order (TRO) against Depp did Heard go out with her bruised face and go out of her way to take pictures of it.
In his testimony, Heard said that somehow he was not noticed by the press when he filed for divorce himself. Although he said he was “relieved about that,” Vasquez sees that he was actually unhappy and definitely planned to make the news when he filed for the TRO. Heard had previously testified that “when I went into the building to file the TRO, there was nobody there, but when I came out, there were a lot of paparazzi waiting to ambush me,” and Vazquez points out that Hurd somehow took a publicist with him when he filed for the TRO. A publicist is someone who arrives for an interview and has nothing to do with these proceedings.
Vazquez also brought up the fact that, prior to filing for divorce, Heard had attempted to contact Depp through someone close to Depp; in a video testimony he gave during the 2016 divorce, Heard stated, “I wanted him to know that I filed for divorce through someone close to him, through my mouth. Not to find out on TMZ.” When he finished playing the video, Vasquez looked as if to say, “See, they found out. “TMZ is a leading gossip site. TMZ is a leading gossip site, and it is the same site that posted the video of Depp acting wildly in the kitchen, including violently closing cabinets. Vasquez is convinced that it was also Hurd who provided TMZ with the video of Depp in the kitchen and asked, “Did you get paid in exchange for that video?” Vasquez asked. Heard, of course, is playing dumb.
Depp was the only reason he got the part in “Aquaman.”
At this trial and before, the staff at the penthouse where Depp and Heard lived, as well as police officers who came to the house after receiving a domestic violence call, have repeatedly testified that they never saw any injuries to Heard’s face. The police officers stated that since there was no indication that she had been violated and she was unwilling to cooperate with the investigation, they just gave her their business cards and left (Depp had left for a house in West Hollywood before Heard’s friend made this call and was not present when the police arrived).
On cross-examination, Vasquez also mentioned this and said, “The police officer testified that your face was not injured at all. You heard that too, didn’t you?” In response, Heard replied, “The police officer did not take that as an injury. Vazquez then again said, “The police officer said there was no injury to your face at all,” to which Heard repeated the same answer. Vazquez was somewhat irritated by this exchange.
Another, slightly more interesting, aspect of the trial was that Depp’s side also implied that Heard was able to get the role of “Aquaman” because of Depp. When Depp was cross-examined by Heard’s lawyer, who made it sound like Depp was hindering Heard’s career, Depp chuckled and said, “How do you think she got the role in ‘Aquaman’?” And today, Vazquez asked Heard, “Was it because of Mr. Depp that you got ‘Aquaman’?” Heard looked miffed at the question and insisted, “No, I auditioned and won it myself. In a subsequent questioning by his own lawyer, Heard stressed that he had been there for “Aquaman” for months before the shoot and had worked hard to do a good job.
But in the sequel, scheduled for release next year, Hurd’s scenes were greatly reduced. While an online petition to ban Heard from “Aquaman” is gathering signatures, Heard says he is not even sure if he is in the finished film. According to Heard, his fee was $1 million for the first film and $2 million for the second. It is as if Heard is not in the market for such a big film now. Since the lawsuit, Heard is no longer used in L’Oreal’s advertising campaigns and has been removed from promotional efforts for the TV drama “The Stand. Heard testified that he was paid only $65,000 from a low-budget indie film called “Into the Fire,” which would come out after this.
