Matthew Healy, vocalist of the popular rock band The 1975, comments on his rejection of an offer to support Ed Sheeran’s tour.
I was offered a reward like I have never seen in my life.
In a recent interview with The New York Times, Matthew Healy said, “I was asked by one of the world’s most popular artists if I would join him on a four-month stadium tour next year. I was offered more money than I had ever seen in my life,” he revealed. Matthew did not mention Ed Sheeran’s name at the time, but when the interviewer pointed it out to him, he readily admitted it.
He said, “Yes, I do. As the main supporter, I was allowed to do whatever I wanted. I was told I could do whatever I wanted as the main supporter. I mean, he can pay me that much out of the money he makes on tour, so his profit will be more than three times what he’s offered. It’s insane,” said Matthew, who turned down the offer.
Matthew recently updated his Twitter account. He explained on Twitter that he had come to this decision because “I have the utmost respect for Ed Sheeran,” and that he simply wanted to play a live show with his band.
I want to be clear. I have the utmost respect for Ed Sheeran, and I didn’t refuse to be on the same stage with him,” Matthew assured. Ed is always nice to me on a personal level. So please don’t make it an internet news story for fun,” he said, complaining about the way the media reported the story.
