Brazilian national team defender Daniel Alves, a member of Pumas UNAM, has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault. The Spanish media, Antena 3, and other media outlets are reporting the news.
He was taken into custody on January 20 local time and is set to stand trial.
As for D. Alves, he was accused by a female victim of touching her underwear without her consent when he visited a nightclub in Barcelona on December 30 last year. The Supreme Court of Barcelona initiated an investigation after receiving the complaint from the woman. As a result, he was taken into custody on January 20 (local time), and will be brought before the court.
When the local media reported the accusation, D. Alves sent the following message to “Antena 3” denying the charges against him.
First of all, I deny all charges. First of all, I deny all of these charges. I did visit that nightclub and enjoyed myself there with other people. It is no secret that I like to dance. I was just dancing and having a good time without disturbing anyone else.
I am also very sorry to say that I do not know who this woman is. I never did anything to invade anyone’s privacy without permission. Not only me, but many of my relatives have been hurt. They know who I am because they know who I am.
It should be noted that D. Alves had received special permission from the club to travel to Spain, but it was in response to the death of his mother-in-law. He was originally scheduled to return to Mexico on the 17th to return to training with Pumas UNAM. He is currently spending time with his family in Spain and has not yet decided when he will join them.
