The Guardians of the Galaxy, the galaxy’s most outcast team, saved the world as part of the Avengers in Avengers: Endgame (2019).

The Guardians are the last and biggest “celebration” of Marvel Studios’ heroes, a group of particularly quirky and wacky characters. The Guardians’ final battle is a rousing, emotional ride through the galaxy, filled with maximum humour, maximum action, an AWESOME soundtrack, maximum Guardians-ness, and the most passionate bond between the Guardians in the series. The latest film in the series, Guardians of the Galaxy: VOLUME 3, will be released in Japan on 3 May (Wed, national holiday), ahead of its release in the US [Friday 5 May]!

Ahead of its worldwide release, a carpet event was held in front of the Marvel Avengers Campus at Disneyland Paris on Saturday 22 April (local time)!

Chris Pratt as Peter Quill/Star-Lord, leader of the Guardians and heartbroken over the loss of his loved ones, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, the cool assassin who “came back” as a badass and was altered by her father Thanos. Pom Klementieff as Mantis, a naturalised esper who can read your mind just by touching you, and Vin Diesel as Groot, a tree-like humanoid who can be extremely dangerous when he gets mad. Vin Diesel, and James Gunn, who has written and directed the first film in the series, made a spectacular Orange Carpet appearance! The Marvel Avengers Campus area at Disneyland Paris was packed with around 1,000 fans and numerous media! The cast and directors were greeted with cheers and applause, and jumped into the maelstrom of enthusiasm, signing autographs and taking photos, making it a hugely successful premiere event.

When the cast gathered in front of the Avengers’ Quinjet spacecraft, the audience’s excitement reached a climax with a spectacular display of blue and orange jet smoke! The excitement of the event was still high as this film was unveiled for the first time, and the curtain finally fell on the “Guardians whirlwind” that took the whole world by storm from this gorgeous and spectacular premiere! The film, which depicts the greatest action, the greatest humour and the greatest emotion in the history of the series, has been highly anticipated as it prepares for its worldwide release!

Comments from the speakers are as follows

Director James Gunn

About the Paris premiere

It’s a dream come true to be here. I grew up as a kid loving Disneyland and Disney World. It’s great to be here in Paris, the ‘City of Love’, with my great friends, the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy and my wife. I can’t imagine a better trip.”

On the film.

‘I love these characters more than anything, so I wanted to give each of them the ending they deserve in Guardians of the Galaxy: VOLUME 3. Rocket is central to the story of this film, but he’s also the character I feel is closest to me. I was like an angry punk rock boy from Missouri with a sense of humour that kept others away from my true self. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve slowly come to realise that it’s okay to let other people get close to my heart. It’s okay to trust others, it’s okay to be weak-minded, it’s okay to be afraid or sad about something. And that it’s still okay. I think that’s exactly the journey Rocket has taken over the course of these three films.”

Message to fans waiting for the film.

I really hope they see it on the big screen. It’s great that cinemas around the world are filling up and you can see the film on theatre screens and IMAX screens as soon as it’s released. That’s the way it should be. The film is both a large scale film and at the same time full of emotions of the characters. It’s about the relationships between the characters and of course a lot of the all sorts of crazy fun stuff that audiences have come to expect from the Guardians series, like the usual explosion scenes.”

Chris Pratt as Peter Quill/Star-Lord

On the Paris premiere.

‘It’s so cool! Paris is amazing, the Marvel Avengers campus is amazing, there are thousands of people here, it’s a magical feeling!”

About the film.

‘At the beginning of the film, Peter Quill is grieving. He is sad, disheartened and has had too much to drink. He is no longer in a fit state to adequately respond to what the Guardians of the Galaxy want from him, which is why they make him vulnerable to attack. So it’s a film about him trying to make up for it in the rest of the story and doing everything in his power to help his friends.”

On the film’s music.

‘My favourite song is “Do You Realise?” by The Flaming Lips. by The Flaming Lips. That’s really good. And the Florence and the Machine song. I also like ‘Creep’ by Radiohead. There are so many good songs.

Message to fans waiting for the film.

It’s fine to wait for the DVD, but come to the cinema. It’s a more enjoyable experience. The screen is bigger, the music sounds great, you can share the experience with other audience members and talk about it with your friends at school.”

Zoe Saldana as Gamora

On the Paris premiere.

‘I feel really good. I’m going to bring my boys here next week. I’m so excited to have my Guardians friends here in Paris, it’s a wonderful feeling.”

On the film.

Gamora is a bit confused by the fact that these outcast Guardians look at her as if they know her, and she doesn’t understand why. And Gamora (in this film) doesn’t have that underlying experience that makes her feel like the Guardians are familiar people. But she can feel that they are close people. It’s a very complicated situation to be in. It was very interesting to enter such a new world of Gamora. It’s refreshing.”

Message to fans waiting for the film.

‘You can expect things to be different from the first and second films. It’s a lot of fun, it’s like being on a ride, you’re on the edge of your seat and you’re laughing out loud with your big mouth open. And then you dance around.”

Karen Gillan as Nebula

On the Paris premiere.

‘I had just been standing on that jet over there, looking around, and I could see a whole bunch of people here on the Marvel Avengers campus. At that moment, I thought we are so lucky to experience something like this, and I knew it wasn’t just a regular premiere, it was something much bigger than that. So I spend every moment appreciating every moment. And I know that this is the last chapter. It’s the last time we’ll do something like this together. It’s kind of sentimental.”

About the film.

‘Her father, Thanos, died in Avengers: Endgame and this film introduces Nebula after Thanos’ death. So she is free from the trauma that Thanos inflicted on her, and she has healed a bit. She’s starting to be able to accept a little bit more love from people around her, and she’s starting to show some love to the people around her. Her character is becoming a bit more humorous and she’s able to show just a little bit more emotion.”

Message to fans waiting for the film.

‘This film is really the last adventure for the current members of the Guardians. It’s the last chapter, but it’s very fun and exciting. And because it’s the last one, there’s a part of me that’s a bit sentimental about it. If I can say one thing, it’s important to see this film on the big screen. It’s a big, big popcorn movie. It’s a movie where you sit with a bunch of other people, eating popcorn and sharing the experience on the big screen. With maximum volume, of course.”

Pom Klementieff as Mantis

On the Paris premiere.

‘I feel very special because I’m from France. It’s very special to be here with all my favourite people and to celebrate the release of this great film.”

About the film.

‘Mantis spends time with his fellow Guardians from the previous film and develops a family-like relationship with them, which is the situation at the beginning of the film. Also, in Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, it was revealed that Mantis and Peter were actually brother and sister, and this created a stronger bond between them. I love characters who are on the fringes of society because they are more unique and sometimes bizarre. The Guardians are very emotional, very human and flawed. That’s what makes them who they are and what makes them human.”

Vin Diesel as Groot

On the Paris premiere.

‘I love coming to France. It’s special for me because my career started at the Cannes Film Festival in 1995. So it’s always a great feeling to be able to come back to this country and celebrate the films that I’ve participated in or been part of. It’s my first time to be part of this ridiculously wonderful and glamorous festival, but I’m very excited and I really love seeing the anticipation that people have when they come to see Guardians (of the Galaxy) and Groot, and I really love seeing that. That’s what it’s all about!”

Message to fans waiting for the film.

This film has to be seen on the big screen, that’s very important. That’s what these films are made for. They’re made for people to come together and share a cinematic experience. We all go to the theatre, we all take in the story, we all tell the story, and we all play a part in that. Don’t sit at home on the sofa and watch it, go to the theatre!”
