Yankees pitcher Domingo Germán pitched a complete game against the Athletics on June 28, 2012, throwing 99 pitches and striking out 9. It has been 11 years since Felix Hernandez of the Mariners accomplished the feat on August 15, 2012. Germán becomes the 24th player in history to do so.

The final inning with a huge lead. When Luis struck out the last batter on a groundout, the nine rushed to the plate and celebrated. A circle of joy formed. It was the fourth complete game by a Yankees pitcher in history, the first in 24 years since Don Larsen on September 8, 1956, David Wells on May 17, 1998, and David Cone on July 18, 1999, and according to Sara Langs of MLB’s official website, the single most by any team.

The 30-year-old right-hander from the Dominican Republic made his major league debut with the Yankees in 2017; he would go on to win 18 games in 2019. However, he was suspended for violating domestic violence (DV) rules and did not pitch the following season in 2020.

In his last appearance on June 22 against the Mariners, he was KO’d after allowing 10 runs (8 earned) in 4 innings. However, on this day, he was dominant and did not allow a single run against the Athletic.

According to “Stats & Info” on ESPN, this was the first time in MLB history that a pitcher who gave up double-digit runs in his next start pitched a complete game. The right-hander made major league history.
