Actor Sean Penn, who is in the region to film a documentary documenting the Russian invasion of Ukraine, reported on his Twitter page that he abandoned the car he was in and headed to the Ukrainian-Polish border on foot.
‘Me and two colleagues abandoned our car on the side of the road and walked miles to the Polish border. The car in this picture is almost exclusively occupied by women and children, with no sign of their belongings, and the car is their only asset.”

Sean arrived in Ukraine early last week, having been conducting reporting activities near the Ukrainian-Russian border since around November of last year. He met with the country’s president, Wlodimir Zelensky, and attended a government press conference announcing that Russian troops had invaded Ukraine. Some say he went to the border “to get out of the country,” but since there is no word on the progress of the filming or the dates of Sean’s stay, it is possible that he went to the border area to film the situation.
According to the Ukrainian government, Russia began its invasion of Ukraine early last week. Explosions and airstrikes have been reported in various parts of Ukraine, increasing the threat to the capital, Kiev. On February 28 (Japan time), ceasefire negotiations were held by delegations from both countries on the border of neighboring Belarus, but they ended without reaching an agreement. A second round of ceasefire negotiations is scheduled to take place in the near future, but the Russian military is still attacking, and the fighting is becoming more intense by the day.
Although Russian President Vladimir Putin claims that his country has historical ties with Ukraine and that he has invaded Ukraine to maintain peace, the military attack has resulted in many deaths in Ukraine, including civilians, and has been widely condemned by the international community.
