What’s the Worst Member Story Ever Revealed by a Costco Clerk?

Costco is very generous with returns.

Costco, a members-only warehouse club, is so popular because of its wide variety of products, from food to clothing to gasoline, that many people are willing to pay an annual membership fee to use it.

One of the reasons for Costco’s popularity is not only its products, but also the fact that it is very tolerant of product returns. In the U.S., Costco allows customers to return items because “it didn’t fit their palate,” which has led to a daily stream of members coming to the return counter to request returns for very aggressive reasons.

And it seems that the return policy is the cause of the “worst member story” that a former Costco employee who worked there for 12 years gave on Reddit.

The story that came to his mind was when a member came to return an item.

The member brought back a rotisserie chicken, a very popular Costco product, with only the bones left, and the reason he wanted to return it was because he didn’t like it!

It’s hard to say that you didn’t like it after eating it all the way down to the bone. And even if you didn’t like it, trying to return something you’ve already eaten is too strong. The former clerk did not reveal whether he even accepted the return, but it seems that dealing with members at the Costco return counter is both interesting and difficult work.

Incidentally, the person also had another “worst member story,” which was also return-related. One member came to return a bed mattress that had a stain on it that looked like he had pooped on it.

Other clerks revealed that in the past, they had made reckless requests such as, “I’ve used this bed sheet for five years, can I return it? Can I return a dead Christmas tree after Christmas? Can I return a dead Christmas tree after Christmas?” and “I only have a quarter of this pie left. and so on.

Many members seem to be hopeful that no matter what condition the item is in, Costco may allow them to return it.
